Materials: Knitting Worsted Weight Yarn; 8 (9) oz Red, 3 (4) oz White
Aluminum Crochet Hook Size G or 4.50
Small Pearls for Trim
Sewing Needle and Thread
Tapestry Needle
2 Small Red Buttons
1 Small Yellow Button

Sizes: 1 year (2 years); Beret One size for both

Note: Always twist colours on wrong side at each colour change. To change colour, draw new colour through last 2 lps of last st of old
colour.
I would also use embroidery instead of beads on the sweater when it is for small children.

Sweater:
Back:
Starting at lower edge, above border; with white, ch 21 (23), yo, drop white, draw red lp through; with red, ch 23(25).
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each of next 21 (23) ch; drop red, with white sc in each ch to end. Ch 1, turn. 44 (48) sc.
Row 2: Work even in sc, in colours as established. Ch 1, turn. Repeating row 2 for pattern, work until piece is 5” from beg and there
are 23 rows. Break off both colours; then reversing colours; work even for 13 rows.

To shape neck:
Keeping colours as established, work as follows:
Next Row: Sc in each of first 15 (16) sc; do not work rem sts. Ch 1, turn. Working in sc, dec 1 sc at neck edge, every row until 10 (11)
sc rem. Work even for 3 more rows. Break off. Sk center 14 (16 sc); join yarn and complete as for first side, reversing shaping.

Front: Work same as for back.

Sleeves:
Starting at top edge, with red, ch 35. Work even on 34 sc for 4 rows. Dec 1 sc each side of next row and every 5th row until there are
24 sc left. Work even until sleeve is 6 ½” (7”) in all. Break off.

Cuff:
With white, ch 8 (9).
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. 7 (8) sc.
Row 2: Sc in back lp of each sc across. Ch 1, turn. Rep row 2 until cuff is 5” from beginning. Break off.

Waistband:
With red ch 9 (11).
Work on 8 (10) sc, work same as for cuff until piece is 20“ (22”). Break off.

Tree:
With green ch 15.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. (14 sc).
Row 2: Dec 1 sc at beg and end of row. Ch 1, turn. (12 sc).
Row 3: Work even on 10 sc. Ch 1, turn.
Row 4: Rep dec row. Ch 1, turn. (8 sc)
Row 5: Rep dec row. Break off, turn. (6 sc)
Row 6: With green, ch 3; then sc in each of 6 sc of last row. Ch 4, turn.
Row 7: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each of next 2 ch; sc in each sc of last row; then sc in each of next 3 ch (12 sc). Ch 1, turn.
Rows 8-10: Rep dec row. At end of last row, break off, turn.
Row 11: With green, ch 2; then sc in each of center 4 sc of last row; then ch 3, turn. Rep dec row until 2 sc rem; then dec 1 sc and
break off.

Trunk:
With green, ch 8. Work even on 7 sc for 1 row. Break off.

Finishing:
Following pic, pin tree and trunk in place on front of sweater. Sew in place. Arrange pearls on tree, sew in place. Sew yellow button at
top of tree. Sew one should seam only. Starting at armhole d\edge, sew other should for ½” only, leaving rest open. Sew top edge of
sleeves in place; sew cuffs to lower edge of sleeve, easing sleeve to fit. Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew waistband seam, then pin to
lower edge of sweater, easing to fit. Sew in place.

Neckband:
With red, ch 6. Working as for cuff, work even on 5 sc until piece when stretched slightly, fits around neckline. Break off. Pin to
neckline, then sew in place.

Shoulder Opening:
With matching colour, on back edge of should, work 1 row of sc along shoulder and edge of neckband. Break off. Rep along front
edge, but don not break off. Ch 1, turn. Work two ch-4 lps for buttons evenly spaced across row, with sc’s between. Sew on buttons,
opposite loops.

Beret:
Starting in center of top; with red, ch 3. Join with sl st to form ring. Right side is always facing you.
Rnd 1: Ch 3, work 11 dc in ring. Join with sl st to top of ch-3 (12 sts, counting ch-3 as one st).
Rnd 2: Ch 1, yo hook and insert hook from front to back, in sp before starting ch and bring hook to front of work through sp on other
side of starting ch, yo hook and draw lp through (3 lps now on hook), (yo and draw through 2 lps) twice (first post dc made--make
other post dc’s around dc of previous rnds); * sc in each of next 2 dc, work a post dc around same dc as last sc was worked. Rep from
* around, ending last rep with sc in next sc, sc in first ch-1 (6 post dc in rnd).
Rnd 3: * Post dc around post dc below, work 1 sc in each of next 2 sc, work 1 sc in top of post dc. Rep from * around ( 6 post dc). Do
not join rnds.
Rnd 4: * Post dc around post dc, sc in each of next 3 sc, sc in next post dc. Rep from * around.
Continue as for last rnd, having 1 more sc between post dc’s each rnd, until there are 15 sc and 1 post dc in each section, and piece
is 8” across, from corner to corner. Work even for next 4 rnds as follow: * Sc in each of next 15 sc, sk sc in top of post st, work post st
as before. Rep from * around.
Next Rnd: (dec rnd): Work post st, * sk first sc, sc in each of next 14 sc, sk sc, work post st. Rep from * around.
Next Rnd: Rep dec rnd, but have 13 sc (not 14 sc).
Next Rnd: Rep dec rnd, but have 12 sc.
Next Rnd: Rep dec rnd, but have 11 sc.

Headband:
Rnd 1: Sc in 11 sc of each section, sk all 6 post dc’s (66 sc).
Rnd 2: With red, sc in each sc around. Join.
Rnd 3: With white, work even in sc. Join and break off.
Rnd 4: With red, work even in sc. Join and break off. Make large red and white pompom, sew to center top of hat.
