Materials: 2 oz of sport yarn
Crochet Hook Size C or 3.00 mm (D or 3.50 mm)
Size: 6 months (one year)
Note: Figures for larger size are given in brackets; where there is only one set of figures, it applies to
both sizes.

Bonnet:
Ch 4 and join with a sl st to first ch to form a ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 3 to count as first dc, 11 dc in ring, join with a sl st to 3rd of ch-3. 12 dc.

Rnd 2: Ch 1 to count as first sc, 1 dc around first ch-3 of previous round, * 1 sc in next dc, 1 dc around
post of same dc–called raised dc or dc front post–, rep from * to end, join with sl st to first ch-1. 12
raised dc with 1 sc between each.

Rnd 3: Ch 1, 1 sc in next raised dc, 1 raised dc in same raised dc, * 1 sc in next sc, 1 sc in next raised
dc, 1 raised dc in same raised dc, rep form * to end, join with a sl st to first ch.

Rnd 4: Ch 1, * 1 sc in each sc to next raised dc, 1 raised dc in next raised dc, rep from * to end, join
with sl st to first ch.         

Rep 4th round 3 more times. 6 sc between each raised dc. 12 sections.

Next Row: Ch 1, 1 sc in each st over 11 sections. Turn.

Next Row: Ch 1, 1 sc in each sc of previous row. Turn.

Next Row: Ch 3, * skip 1 sc, 1 dc in next sc, 1 dc in skipped sc —called cross dc—, rep from * to last st,
1 dc in last st. Turn.

Next Row: Ch 1, 1 sc in each dc to end. 1 sc in turning ch. Turn.

Rep last 2 rows 8 more times. Fasten off.

To Finish: Fold last 4 rows of bonnet onto right side to form brim.
Lower Edging: Using size C (D) hook, work 3 rows in sc along lower edge, working through double
thickness of brim.
Brim Edging: Rejoin yarn with a sl st to first cross dc row and using C (D) hook, work * ch 3, 1 sc in first
ch, 1 sc in next st, rep from * to end. Turn.
Next Row: In sc row work * ch 3, 1 sc in first ch, skip 1 sc, 1 sc in next st, rep from * to end. Turn.
Rep last 2 rows once more. Fasten off.

Ties: Using C (D) hook and 2 strands of yarn tog, join yarn with a sl st to one corner of bonnet and ch
70 for bonnet tie. Fasten off.
Work another tie at the other corner in same way. Weave in loose ends.
