Fenella The Fish Potholder
Materials: 1 Ball Aqua Crochet Cotton
Crochet Hook Size 2/0 or 2.50 mm
Scraps of pink, white and black felt
2 large and 2 small sequins
6 beads
½ yd ribbon
1/4" wide brass ring
Starting at center, ch 2.
Rnd 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook.
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around.
Rnd 3: * Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc (1 sc increased). Repeat from * around.
Rnd 4: Sc in each sc around, increasing 6 sc evenly around.
Repeat 4th round until piece measures 5 ½" in diameter.
Next Rnd: Ch 4, 2 tr at base of ch-4, in next sc make dc, hdc and dc; 2 tr in next sc, ch 4, sl st in same
sc as 2 tr were made (tail), sc in each remaining sc around, increasing as before.
Next Rnd: Sc in first 3 ch of ch-4, 3 sc in last ch, sc in each st across tip of tail, 3 sc in first ch of
second ch-4, sc in each remaining sc, complete rnd, increasing as before to within 1 sc before tail.
Next Rnd: (Insert hook in next sc and draw loop through) 3 times; thread over and draw through all
loops on hook (2 sc decreased), sc in each sc around tail, making 3 sc in center sc of each 3-sc group
and decreasing 2 sc at opposite side of tail. Sl st in next sc. Break off.
Cut eye of white felt and mouth of pin felt as shown. With pink embroidery floss, embroider center line
of mouth. Sew large sequin and beads in place on eye. Sew eye and mouth in place. Cut a piece of
black felt 1 inch square and slit for eyelashes as shown. Sew eyelashes in place. Make a bow ribbon
and sew in place at tail. Sew sequin on bow. Make another piece the same way. Sew pieces together.
Sew brass ring at top.
