Granny Square Stocking
Materials: Worsted Weight Yarn; 4 oz Red, 4 ozs Green, 4 ozs White
Crochet Hook Size G or 4.50 mm
Yarn Needle
Granny Square: (make 8):
With red ch 6, join with a sl st to form ring.
Row 1: * 3 dc in ring, ch 1; repeat from * 3 times, join with a sl st.
Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), 2 dc in same sp, ch 1, 3 dc (corner), * 3
dc in next sp, ch 1, 3 dc; repeat from * 2 times, join with a sl st. Tie off.
Row 3-5: Repeat row 2 with white, green and red having one more 3 dc
group between corners in each row.
Half Squares: (make 3):
With red ch 4, join with a sl st to form ring.
Row 1: Ch 4, * 3 dc in ring, ch 1; repeat from * once more, 1 dc in ring,
ch 4, turn.
Row 2: 3 dc in 1st sp, 3 dc in next sp, ch 1, 3 dc (corner), 3 dc in next sp,
ch 1, 1 dc in same space. Tie off.
Row 3: With white ch 4, 3 dc in 1st space, 3 dc in next sp, 3 dc in next sp,
ch 1, 3 dc, 3 dc in next sp, 3 dc in next sp, ch 1, 1 dc in same sp. Tie off.
Rows 4 & 5: Repeat row 3 with green and red having one more 3 dc
group each side of corner in each row.
Finishing:
With red sl st squares together by inserting hook from the front under the
two top threads of each st of last row of squares following the diagram
below for square placement leaving top edge open. Note that some
squares are folded in half to the other side. With yarn needle draw red
through open edge of toe half square pulling yarn tight to close.
With red work 6 rows sc around top edge working a ch 20 at back on last
row for hanging.
