Maple Leaf Afghan
Maple Leaf Afghan

~ I am in the middle of making this one and it’s beautiful and a great way to use up odds
and ends of fall coloured yarn~

Materials: Worsted Weight Yarn~24 ozs Main Colour MC White
4 ozs of each contrasting colours~CC scarlet, gold, green variegated greens &
autumns
Crochet Hook Size H or 5.00 mm
     Tapestry Needle

Note: When working two colours, carry yarn not in use across the back of the work,
working over it to weave it into WS. Draw new colour through last loops of last stitch.

To Make One Square:
Using MC, ch 25.

Base Row: Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each ch to end. Turn. 24 sc.

Row 1: Ch 1, 1 sc in each of next 10 sc, insert hook in next sc, yo and draw through a
loop, draw CC through 2 loops on hook, still using CC work 1 sc in next sc working st over
loose end of CC and MC, insert hook in next sc and draw through a loop, draw MC
through 2 loops on hook – 2 complete sc in CC made – , leaving CC at back of work, 1 sc
in each sc to end of row. Turn. 24 sc.
Continue in sc following chart and always changing colours with last yo of previous st and
working over MC. When leaf pattern is complete, break off CC and work last 2 rows of
chart in MC as indicated. Do not break off MC. Work 2 more sc in last st to turn corner,
then work 1 row of sc around 3 edges of square, working 1 sc in each sc or row edge and
3 sc in each corner. Work 2 sc in same st as first st of 25th row. Join with sl st to first st.
Break off MC, leaving approximately 1 yd for joining squares later. Make 7 squares in
each of 5 leaf colours in the same way. 35 squares.

To Assemble:
Block squares according to yarn instructions. Arrange in 5 rows of 7 squares each,
scattering leaf colours. Join squares using long loose ends of MC and tapestry needle.
Sew through both loops of each sc with overcast stitch. Weave in any loose ends.

To Finish:
Cut rem MC and CC into random lengths, each at least 20 inches long. Join any colour at
any outside st, work 1 sc in each sc and 3 sc in each corner, around entire outside edge,
join last sc to first with a sl st. Change colours randomly as each strand is finished and
work over ends. Work 7 more rows in sc. 8 rows.
Fasten off. Weave in any loose ends.
