Beak: (make 2):

With yellow cotton, leaving a 3” length, ch 3, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in next ch,
fasten off leaving a 3” length of cotton.

Neck Trim:

With variegated crochet cotton, ch 22, sc in 5th ch from hook, ch 5, sc in same ch, (ch 5,
sc in next ch, ch 5, sc in same ch) rep across ch, fasten off leaving a length of cotton.

Finishing:

As needed, insert a little more fiberfill in each wing. But, you don’t want the open edge at
back to have any fiberfill. With needle and crochet cotton, working in back lps only,
whipstitch edges of wings closed. Put just a scrap of fiberfill in tail and whipstitch closed,
working across in back loops only.

Take a length of white crochet cotton and yarn needle. Insert needle at rnd 9 of back of
head and back out, catching 1-2 stitches. Insert into back of body in about rnd 16 and
out, catching 1-2 sts. Knot ends tightly. Work ends into body. What this does is pull the
head more upright into a natural position.

For the eye indentations, with yarn needle and white cotton, insert needle at side of head,
but forward toward front of head into rnd 4 and out rnd 4 of other side of head. Insert
needle back through, catching just a piece of stitch. Pull ends slightly to indent head. Knot
ends and work into head. Glue 4 mm blue eyes in the indented area on each side of head.

For beak, thread one length of one section of beak through needle, insert at front for
position of beak and right through back of head, remove needle.

Thread remaining length of thread of same section of beak and go right through head
with this length.

Rep with second beak section. Carefully pull the beak away from the head slightly, but
don’t lose the 4 threads at back of head. Put a drop of glue on threads at front of head.
Pull the threads at back of head to pull beak back into position. Let dry for a few minutes.

Then pull threads at back of head slightly and cut off so that when head goes back into
shape it will draw any excess portion of these threads back into head.

Attach neck trim around neck by using the extra length of remaining cotton to sew ends
together.

Attach a length of clear nylon thread in center of back in rnd 17. Before knotting ends of
hanging loop, make sure bird is well balanced, as if flying.
