Snowman Hot Pad

Materials: Worsted Weight Yarn 3 ½ ozs White, 2 oz Red, 1 oz Black, ½ oz Med Green, Small
Amount of Dk Peach
Crochet Hook Size F
Tapestry Needle

Note: When changing colours drop first colour to wrong side of work, pick up next colour. Always
change colours in last st made.

Head & Body (make 2):
Row 1: With white, beginning at bottom, ch 13, sc in second ch from hook, sc in each ch across,
turn. (12 sc made)

Rows 2-8: Ch 1, 2 sc in first st, sc in each st across to last st, 2 sc in last st, turn. (26)

Rows 9-20: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.

Rows 21-27: Ch 1, sc first 2 sts tog, sc in each st across to last st, sc last 2 sts tog, turn. (12)

Rows 28-31: Ch 1, 2 sc in first st, sc in each st across to last st, 2 sc in last st, turn. (20)

Rows 32-35: Ch 1, sc in each st across changing to red in last st made. Fasten off white.

Rows 36-39: For hat, ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.

Rows 40-41: Ch 1, sc first 2 sts tog, sc in each st across to last 2 sts, sc last 2 sts tog, turn. (16)

Row 42: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.

Rows 43-47: Ch 1, sc first 2 sts tog, sc in eahc st across to last 2 sts, sc last 2 sts tog, turn. At end
of last row, fasten off. (6)

Facial Features (on one side only):
For eyes, with black embroider two satin stitches 1 ½" apart over rows 33 and 34.

For mouth, with back embroider fly stitch over rows 30 and 31.

For nose, with dk peach, embroider French knot between rows 32 and 33 between eyes.

Assembly:
Wtih wrong sides together and front facing you, working through both thicknesses, using matching
colours, join with sc in first ch on opposite side of starting ch, sc in each ch, in end of each row and
in each st around with 2 sc at curves where needed to keep work flat.

Hat Cuff:
Row 1: Wtih red, ch 6, sc in second ch from hook, sc in each ch across, turn. (5 sc made)

Row 2-22: Working in back lps, ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. At end of last row, fasten off.

Sew ends of rows on one edge of cuff to row 36 of hat. Sew first and last row and opposite edge of
cuff to hat.

Scarf (make 2):
Row 1: With med green, ch 21, sc in second ch from hook, sc in each ch across, turn. (20 sc made)

Row 2-3: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. At end of last row, fasten off. Place one scarf piece
centered over second piece. Sew one end of scarf piece to each side fo neck, tacking edges and
remaining ends to body

Arm (make 4):
Row 1: Starting at top edge, with white, ch 9, sc in second ch from hook, sc in each ch across, turn.
(8 sc made)

Row 2-8: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.

Rows 9-10: Ch 1, sc first 2 sts tog, sc in each st across to last 2 sts, sc last 2 sts tog, turn. At end of
last row, fasten off. (4)
Match ends of rows on two arm pieces together; working through both thicknesses, join white with
sc in end of row 1, sc in end of each row and in each st across ending at opposite side of row 1.
Fasten off leaving top edge unworked. Repeat with other arm pieces. Sew one arm to each side of
body below scarf.

Boot (make 4):
Row 1: Starting at bottom, with black, ch 12, sc in second ch from hook, sc in each ch across, turn.
(11 sc made)

Rows 2-4: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.

Row 5: Ch 1, sc first 2 sts tog, sc in each st across, turn. (10)

Row 6: Ch 1, sc in each st across to last 2 sts, sc last 2 sts tog, turn. (9)

Row 7-8: Repeat rows 5 and 6. (7)

Rows 9-13: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn. At end of last row, fasten off.

Match ends of rows on two boot pieces together; working through both thicknesses, join black with
sc in end of row 13, sc in end of each row and on opposite side of starting ch across ending at
opposite end of row 13. Fasten off leaving top edge unworked. Repeat with other boot pieces.
Sew top edge of each boot to bottom of body 1 ½" apart.
