When completed tablecloth measures 54 x 72 inches. There are 252 individual octagonal blocks, each about 3 ¾ inches from
side to side, are made then sewed together.

Block: Starting at center, wind thread 12 times around tip of forefinger, thus forming a ring.
Rnd 1: Make 40 sc in ring. Join with sl st.
Rnd 2: ch 8 (to count as dc and ch-5), *skip 4 sc, dc in next sc, ch 5. Repeat from * around. Join last ch-5 with sl st to 3rd st of
ch-8 first made (8 sps).
Rnd 3: Ch 3 (to count as dc), 6 dc in next sp, *ch 2, 7 dc in next sp. Repeat from * around. Join last ch-2 with sl st to 3rd st of ch-3
first made.
Rnd 4: Ch 3, dc in each of next 6 dc, * ch 3, dc in each of next 7 dc. Repeat from * around. Join as before.
Rnd 5: Sl st in next dc, ch 3, dc in each of next 4 dc, *ch 5, sc in next sp, ch 5, skip 1 dc, dc in each of next 5 dc. Repeat from *
around. Join last ch-5 with sl st as before.
Rnd 6: Sl st in next dc, ch 3, dc in each of next 2 dc, *ch 5, sc in next loop, 4 dc in sc between the 2 loops, sc in next loop, ch 5,
skip first dc of next dc-group, dc in each of next 3 dc. Repeat from * around. Join last ch-5 with sl st.
Rnd 7: Sl st in next dc, ch 3, dc in next dc, * ch 5, sc in next loop, 4 dc in next sc, sc in center of next 4-dc group, 4 dc in next sc,
sc in next loop, ch 5, skip 1 dc of 3-dc group, dc in each of next 2 dc. Repeat from * around. Join as before.
Rnd 8: Sl st across to center of next loop, *ch 7, sc in center of next 4-dc group, 4 dc in next sc (which is between the 2 groups),
sc in center of next 4-dc group, ch 7, sc in next loop, ch 7, skip 2 dc, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around. Join last ch-7 with sl st
to base of first loop.
Rnd 9: Sl st across to center of loop, * ch 7, sc in center of next 4-dc group, ch 7, sc in next loop, ch 7, sc in next loop, ch 7, sc in
next loop. Repeat from * around. Join as before.
Rnd 10: Sl st across to center of loop, *ch 7 sc in next loop. Repeat from * around. Join as before (32 loops).
Rnd 11: Sl st across to center of loop, *ch 4, sc in next loop, ch 4, 4 dc in next loop, ch 4, 4 dc in same loop, ch 4, sc in next loop,
ch 4, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around. Join and break off. This completes one block. Make 252 blocks.

To Join Blocks: Place blocks in position (14 x 18 blocks). With over and over stitches sew one side of one block (from ch-4
between dc-groups to ch-4 between next dc-groups) to corresponding side of the adjacent block (always having wrong side of
work on top). Then fill in spaces left open by motifs as follows:
Fillin Lace:
Rnd 1: Attach thread to third sc on one block (counting from right to left), * ch 9, skip joining of two blocks, sc in first sc on
adjacent block, ch 9, skip next sc of same block, sc in next sc. Repeat from * around (8 loops in all).
Rnd 2: Sl st across to center of loop, * ch 9, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around. Join with sl st to base of first loop.
Rnd 3: Sl st across to center of loop, * Ch 3, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around.
Rnd 4: 2 sc in each loop and 1 sc in each sc. Join and break off. Fill in all remaining spaces in same way.
